SL500 2001 Formula 1 Edition;
You've got to see this R129
It is a listing on cars.com, for sale by Penske Motors in So. Cal., USA. A 1996 SL500 supposedly with only 330 miles on it. They want nearly $60,000:

Oh......I know that car......that the limited edition Indy 500 Pace Car........they use it during the Indy race...... That why they cost so much......

Oh yeah when I first saw the car......they were rope around it and have a big sign said, "NOT FOR SALE" At that time a lot of people willing to pay top dollars for the car......

So, is that the ACTUAL Indy pace car -- the one that actually drove around the track at the race -- OR just one of several limited edition packages?

I think you are right . . . it must have been used for some special purpose.
I went to the dealer's website and saw more pictures (but they list the miles WAY higer -- like 97,000). In the back ground of one of the pictures is a large photo of the car being driven and some kind of certificate.

I think it's very interesting that the dealer is asking insane money for this car (regardless of mileage) but does NOT mention anything in the Car.com ad or their own website about this being a "special" car. BTW: the mileage on the website is not listed as 97K miles, it's listed as 947,xxx miles.

It's was never an Indy pace car. At least I couldn't find it on www.indypacecars.com
Maybe I should swing by there this weekend and see what is so special about it.
But you are right -- it is insane money to ask without even saying a word about why the car justifies the money.
