1997 SL 500
Question Speaker grill removal

I would like to replace the speaker grill cloth on the door speakers in my 1997 SL 500. The bottoms are easy enough to remove. Does anyone know how to easily remove the top ones? Do you have to disassemble the door panel? If so, what precautions are necessary for the side air bags. Thanks!!

Yes, the panel....

has to come off. It's a job. My wrench performed the srugery on both sides under warranty as they were both coming apart. He wasn't any too happy about it, especially when he cut my shell door panel on my 9000 miles car putting it back together. Ouch! He did stand up for it and did a nice job...
