Help with soft top

My 95 SL 500 top won't respond when you push the top switch forward to make the top raise. It went down fine and when I pull back on the switch you can hear motors running under the lid. The lid acts like it just won't release and let the top come up.I checked the fuses in the trunk and all were good. Please help. Thanks,Rick

...and try having the engine running, it could be the battery.

There are many possibilities. The most likely is that the switch that senses that the soft top is lowered and stored in its compartment is not closed. But that is just a guess. If you aren't familiar with the system, I suggest the best thing to do is read diagnostic codes. The controller for the soft top will probably tell you what the problem is, and it is usually a simple fix. To read codes on a '93-'95 you need an LED from Radio Shack that costs about $1.29 and some wire. You may also want to check the status of the limit switch input signals to the soft top controller with a basic electronic multimeter. Post back if you want to pursue these options and need help.
