SL/R129: Fluid leaking from soft-top piston

Hi ,
I've got a 1997 SL500 with 62,000kms on the clock.
Recently I noticed a slight leakage from a hole in a subframe panel on the underneath of the car, under the passenger seat and just in from the "Z" on the Mercedes Benz writing on the running board.
Coincidentally I noticed about six months ago, a slight wetness on the top of one of the large pistons (also on the passenger side) that raises and lowers the soft-top assembly, thought I could find no evidence of a leak (but it is quite hard to see in there)
I had a Mercedes garage in Geneva take a look, and they say it IS the piston that needs replacing.
Has anyone had any experience of removing the soft-top assembly? I am prepared to do the job myself, but it would be nice to get some guidance from someone who has already done it!
Thanks for any suggestions.

i Had a problem with my top cylinders leaking ( in the windshield post ) I was quoted a fortune to fix by MB There are links to show you how to remove both the front and rear cylinders. You can contact Dennis and ask him about resealing the rear cylinders for you. He fixed mine, email him you won't be sorry, MUCH CHEAPER THAN NEW $30 cylinder plus 10.00 shipping and FAST turn around. This may be a good alternative to costly new cylinders. Here is his contact info:

There is some great post on this site about removing the cylinders Im no MB mechanic and I had them out and in the mail within an hour following the directions
