SL/R129: Oil level sensor plug connector leaking oil?
I have a very nice 1997 SL500 which I bought in Lausanne, Switzerland, about 9 months ago. The car is in great condition with 62,000kms on the clock.
Recently I decided to inspect the underneath of the engine and saw evidence of a minor oil leak.
The leak seems to be coming from a small white plastic sensor plug in the lower side of the engine just behind the alternator. I have put two photos at
http://www.odwyer.net/cars/plug/cars.htm
From documentation I got on the web it seems to be the oil level sensor plug connector? Does this sound right?
There is a flat metal circlip securing the plug and when I remove it I can then push the plug into the engine (which of course I was unwilling to do!)
The leak is very slight but I suppose it can only get worse, so I will have to replace it at some stage.
Has anyone changed out this plug and is it a major job?
Many thanks,
Louis
