Unhappy Loose Cigarette Connector

Is there a way to repair a loose cigarette connector? I try to use an adapter for charging my ipod, only for it to disconnect regularly when hitting small bumps in the road.

Loose Lighter

There are a couple of small tabs in the housing that are now too recessed. Use a non conducting tool to pry them back towards each other and that should do the trick. If you use a screwdriver, it will pop the fuse. Been there so I know.

The problem is European cars have larger sockets then other cars and many devices come with an adaptor ring that slips over the lighter plug to make it snug. I don't know where to buy these adaptors seperately but I've had many of them over the years. I'll check my "junk" box tonight and see if I have any laying around and take a pic if I do.

In a pinch I've used a shred of paper folded over and over to get some thickness and used it as a shim to create the same effect as the adaptor I speak of...not elegant, but it works. Folded paper is right up there with silicone and duct tape in my book

Red face Great Tips!

I'll try the paper tip this evening although I'd like a permanent solution. Somewhat of a neat freak! Please let me know if you find a pic of the adapter for the adapter! smile

Im sorry, but would you give me an example of a non conducting tool? I remember dropping a dime in the lighter and blowing the fuse! smile

When my phone charger kept coming loose, I simply used a ball point pen to force the tabs closer and snugged the charger. I did all of this while waiting for traffic lights to change. Quite simple.
