Auto Transporter
I'm in a need of a reliable auto transport service. I've just inherited my dad's 1994 SL500 and I'm trying to find the best service or best way to ship the car from New Jersey to California. I've seen rail and truck services, open and closed trailers. I know a closed trailer would be the best way. If anyone has feedbacks or experiences with a particular transporter please advise. Thanks so much!

I've used and been very happy with Newman International and Weber Transport. I think Newman is based out of South Florida and Weber is based in OK. Both are enclosed. Expect to pay $1500+ for enclosed transport cross country.

Have your family take detailed pics of every panel of the car as the car is being loaded on the transport. Keep all your paperwork and bill of lading and have the car insured including uninsured motorist before having them pick it up. Im in a crazy lawsuit right now that includes two cars. I would insist on asking for the Declaration of insurance and ask how much is the deductible for the transport company. For example the one I used has a 2500 dollar deductable.. That means anything under that the carrier is self insured for. SO good luck.. JJ

Thanks for the helpful replies. It just worries me to have someone else handle our car for several weeks. I've heard good things about "Intercity Transporters" Has anybody used them in the past?

Whatever you do, USE AN ENCOLSED TRANSPORT SERVICE. If you use an open transporter you will be very unhappy. I did the open service once and it took two detail jobs plus stone chip repairs to make it pristine again.

Yes, I came to the conclusion that an enclosed trailer would be the way to go. I'm just trying to compare several transporter since their quotes differ up to $1,000.
