Looking for SoCal SL600 volunteer
Hi fellas -
My '94 SL600 has the ASR light on constantly. The tech can't get rid of the fault code, and the car limps along.
He (Mike at Beach Benz) thinks it's the throttle motors, but can't say for sure. New ones run several grand a piece, and there are two. The whole job could get close to $10,000. And if that ain't the problem, then I'll be sitting there with two perfectly white elephants.
I'm curious to hear from someone who may be willing to give up their early SL600 for an experiment to try to find where the issue lies. It would involve removing the throttle motors from your car and put them on to mine to see if that resolves the issue. I would have a professional mechanic do all the work.
This may be a preposterous proposal, but I thought I'd put it out there...
Btw, if someone knows a wreck to get those motors from, feel free to give me a shout.

This guy wrote an article about repairing the throttle actuators: http://v12uberalles.com/throttle_actuator_rewire.htm.

Yes, I most definitely have harness rot. I've had a couple of mechanics look at it and even though they say they've fixed it before, they haven't been able to fix it.
The V12uber... site had great info. Thanks! There was a link to a Florida company rebuilding ETAs so I'll give them a call in the morning to see what a rebuilt one costs. If prohibitively expensive I may just have someone do the soldering described on the V12uber page.
Appreciate the input folks!
