Question re. "Silver Arrow" SL500 paint
Hello all,
I'm wondering whether it's possible to order a few cans from MB (through a dealer?) of the special silver paint used on the '02 "Silver Arrow" edition SL's? If so, does anyone know the paint code or whatever is necessary to enter the order with a parts counter, or whether there's another/cheaper way to go about getting the paint?
I have recently bought a very clean 1972/3 280SE sedan that's got nice, original white paint/ black interior. I've been on the fence about how to repaint it, either ivory white (as stock) or some silver variant, as my favorite uncle had one of these (well, his was a 300SEL 6.3) in silver and it was gorgeous. I've seen other silver ones on rare occasions and I find the silver looks more like grey, though. Thus, I'm interested in having the car done in a more brilliant tone of silver, which those Silver Arrows wear very well. This car is going to blow minds when it's done.
Thanks in advance for your help. If anyone knows a good paint shop (not too overpriced if possible) in the West Hollywood vicinity (including Hollywood, West LA, Burbank) I'd love to add them to my list of places for estimates.

i dont know if you can do that but i was able to get a touch up pen for mine...so i assume you could.
one thing i am displeased with is how soft the paint is and how easily it chips...i will wait for one more good one then get the front resprayed..they only made the paint that one year so it wont be cheap

well, after learning that to get the car painted "right", i.e. the kind of paint job that a super clean classic deserves but keeping in mind it'd be more involved given it's coming from white to silver, would cost on the order of $8k or so (the w108/109 body is insanely trim-laden and thus the prep is ultra labor-intensive), i've decided to do a less-involved repaint in the original ivory white paint. it's a gorgeous car in this color, and i'll be able to avoid having to repaint the hubcaps
so for several grand less, i'll be a happy man and the car will look good as new. would've been nice in silver, but whoever said you can have it all was either a lottery winner or a liar!
thanks for your help with my question.

My baby is the off white also and for some reason it always looks dirty to me, but to retain the classic original according to the VIN / Build sheet I am going to keep the color.
Got the car from my Dad a couple of years ago. Have since put about $14K into it (engine, trans and rear end) and am close to the paint job.
Yep the Quote was $11K to do it as complete body off job. I figure I will have nearly $30K into it by the time I am done.
