Exclamation convertible top stuck down, WTF??!

So I take off the hard top today, go for a nice ride.....and the damn soft top is hiding away under the deck lid, never to be seen. The motor and pump make noise, but it seems like the passanger side is "locked", it just wont move! You can hear the pump and cylinder load up with pressure, occasionaly make some clicking sounds, and even see the deck lid squirm around a bit, but the top will not open up.

I just re-read what I wrote and its obvious that this is a 3:30am posting, im tired and the roof is stuck down on my new toy, PLEASE HELP!

Well it seems like the actuator on the passenger side is jammed, even with the hard top back in place it wont mount flush with the body as a result of this little gremlin. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm gonna bring it to the shop to get looked at.

When you try to close the soft top the four latches for the top should all be in the open position. If not, then you will experience problems as you described. You can tell if the latches are open just by looking at them through the openings. If one of the front two is closed, then you can use the special wrench from the tool kit to open them. Opening a rear latch on a MY1995 or later car is considerably more difficult.

The front latches are operating fine, its just the passenger side rear that seems to be hung up.

Try to manually release it.

Follow the instructions in your car manual for manually releasing the cover. Then cycle the top through an entire "up" and "down" cycle. Sometimes they get stuck. It worked for me.

Also check the lock to see if it needs a little grease.

If the latch you mention is out of position, then you have a couple of options. One is to remove the partition at the back of the trunk to gain access to the latch. This panel is held in with plastic pins and comes out quickly and easily. Then you may be able to manually open the latch. That procedure worked for someone with the same problem as you a couple of years ago.

I had your problem and did something differerent. When I removed the partition, I simply couldn't figure-out how to get the latch to open. So, I removed the electrical connectors to the soft top controller and jumpered #37 and #54 on the large connector to #1 on the short connector. This forces the hydraulic pump to run (#54) and energizes the solenoid for opening the latch (#37) by applying battery power (#1).
