91 500sl Asr
Hello-
New to Forum since I've never had a prolblem with my car until today. ASR light comes on if I accelerate sharply. Never had this before but while I was racing on the freeway with a BMW I really gave it all it had and then the car went into the famous "limp"mode. Shutdown the car and started it back up ...no problem. Today...accelerated moderately and ASR light and limp mode. The "!" does not come on at all but the car is in limp mode until I turn off the ignition and re-start. I only have 54K on this gem and never ever had problems. Any ideas as to what I need to do?

The problem could be the drive-by-wire throttle. You can test this with the engine off and the key in position 2. Actuate the throttle abruptly as you would if you were accelerating sharply. Do this several times. If the throttle goes into Limp Home Mode, then you know your problem is with the throttle.
