Does anyone have and use OBD scanner or software and if so what is it. The web is no help in finding the best one. Thanks! 1998 SL600

Basically it is a tool that will allow you to determine the cause of a check engine light. The connector is located under the drivers' side of the dashboard near the center console. They are very affordable and can be purchased at your local auto store. I have also seen them for sale on EBay. They usually come with a CD or book to help you determine the meaning of the various error codes.

My recommendation would be the Actron OBD tool. It was very affordable and works great. I originally purchased one made by Innova Eqqus and it couldn't successful read the codes on my 1996 SL320. Strangely enough it worked with my 1999 E430.

Model

What model Actron do you use and will it clear the check engine light? I have used two and they will read codes but will not clear light.
Thanks!

I used their little Pocketscan CP9125. It was a snap to clear the codes and turn off the check engine light.

Thanks, I will give it a try. Took 3 hours to put plugs in Sat. and hope I can clear the codes and see if that took care of the problem.

Is it possible that there is no OBD connector installed on my 1996 SL320? There a hinged door where the connector is supposed to be, but nothing behind the door! There is a 38-pin connector under the hood near the passenger-side firewall.
