Hey All...thought I'd post this here as well as the tirerack group.
I bought a set of Factory AMG rims off e-bay supposedly off a r129 SL500 (below)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=160141570440
They need a set of tires and I like the Kumho's, but I noticed Tire Rack's site is giving me the following sizes: 245/40ZR18 & 275/35ZR18
The Rims are 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 (unsure of offset) and they currently have:
255/40R18 & 285/35R18.
What tire sizes should I be looking for to work with these rims and my car?
The Kumho's aren't offered in the sizes that are currently on my wheels. What are my options? Do either sizes work? Kumho's are in my price range and I've heard a lot of good bang for buck feedback.
Thanks Much!
Dreux

kuhmo's run EXTREMELY wide so you can run a 235/245 front = 255, and a 265/35 = 275+ . I used to run 245s on the REARS!! (thats 9.5) and they barely looked stretched. Kuhmo MXs run real wide so don't let the #s mislead you, 245 / 265 F/R will do the job.

Those look to be off of a R230 which runs both a larger tire size and lug bolts. IIRC the R129 has a 12mm bolt and the R230 runs a 14mm bolt. The rims will fit, but you'd better get some different lugs bolts for it in order for them to mount correctly. IIRC there are certain Jettas that have the right combination of 12mm bolt and 14mm conical seat. Your best bet is to do a little searching to find out exactly what you need. Same can be said of the tire sizes/brands.. Not trying to be a pain, just trying to save you some grief and/or dissappointment. Good luck!
Sweet...thanks guys. I ended up getting a set of Pirelli's for about $100 more than the Kumho's and with road hazard and no shipping costs (dealer connection)!
Anyways, the people I bought the wheels from sent me 23 random lugs all different sizes, none of which fit my car. You're most likely correct about them coming from an R230.
Thanks Again!
