SL/R129: Problematic air conditioning system

Problematic air conditioning system
When I switch on the air conditioning system, it takes something like 10 to 20 seconds before there is any air blowing to the outlets in the front panel. This only happens recently, and the air conditioning system has been running fine for the past few years. Mines is a 1997 SL320.
Has anyone seen this before? Is it a problem with the climate control? Or something else?

I am having the same problem with my 1996 SL320. I feel pretty certain that the center vent flap vacuum actuator above the blower motor is going bad. I will be replacing mine in the next couple of weeks. I will let you know if that solves the problem.

My car blows air through the side vents but not the center vents. I ordered the replacement actuator from the dealer but when I went to pick it up it was the wrong part. The dealer has reordered the actuator but as a result of the Columbus Day holiday it will not be in until Tuesday. I will give you an update later in the week.

I picked up the new actuator from the dealer on Wednesday and installed it that evening. So far no problems. Since your are not receiving any air from your side vents either the cause of your problem is most likely different.

My guess is there must be problem in the electric relays which releases supply to the fan blower of the air conditioning
