SL/R129: Removing the steering wheel 91 SL500
#2
Hi,
I believe there is an earlier thread on this board or Benzworld where they indicate you need to disconnect and remove BOTH connections to the battery before you attempt this. Otherwise the airbag may open!! Also, I suggest you have your radio code in hand before trying it as the code will need to be reentered.
It sounds like once you disconnect the battery, you use a torx bit to unscrew the two scres in the back, unplug the airbag and remove then remove the one nut holding the wheel on.
Also, before starting make sure you align your wheels straight and lock the ignition.
Try to find the article / thread for exact instructions. GOOD LUCK.

I have done this this evening ,first of all I disconnected the battery completly and then took up the passenger carpet and removed the black tray, underneath is a red multiplug unplug it this dissables the airbag ,then you need a long series torq the one I used had t30h stamped on it, from behind unscrew two of these the airbag will now pull forward unplug the red plug from the airbag ,then you need a ten millimetre allen key and a long bar to remove the steering wheel hold the wheel [not on the steering lock] and pull like mad once the allen screw is out a quick tug and the wheel is off hope this helps mark
