SL500 windscreen & performance mods Qs
Does any one know of a company that sells windscreens for SL500 that is not "net" like? This would be for an SL500 1998-Sport...
Also, any recommendation on performance modification that I can do to add hp or just plain "upgrade" for the car for minimal $$-say under $1k? I live in the vicinity of Renntech and will probably have them do the mods...any ideas or thoughts?

For under $1,000, the only worthwhile upgrade I can think of would be our Underdrive Pulleys. We have dyno-tested them to add 13HP at the wheels. Currently, we are the only ones making these pulleys for the Mercedes, so depending on who you ask, they may not know anything about them.

Will the underdrive pulley cause other accessories to be slowed down to deliver more hp to the rear wheels - say, the adverse effect of reduced cooling capacity and less efficient a/c operation @ certain rpm?

We would be fools if we designed our Mercedes or BMW pulleys to affect the air conditioning! The only adverse affect is that if you have a large aftermarket stereo (or other power drain) in the car, it can drain your battery because the alternator is not providing enough power. Otherwise, it's easy horsepower.

I plan on doing several mod on my 1997 SL500. Exhaust, ECM chip, Air intake and possibly a 50 hp nitrous kit. I never knew that underdrive pulleys were available. But I would suggest all these mods for you as it should make a big difference.

The chip sounds great! I will have to look into that...I imagine that mods will void the starmark warranty?
I'm still in need of a windscreen (none was provided when I purchased the car-Starmarked)...any suggestions?

I do not know of any thing besides the net windscreen... That is all you can, I just got mine a few months ago, did allot of shopping around... you can go to www.performanceproducts.com or even your dealer... the prices have dropped quiet a bit in the past couple of months...
