Code scanner for my SL
Just wonder whether it is worthwhile to buy a fault code scanner? I intend to keep my 97 SL320 for a long time, and I am thinking that it would help diagnosing problems myself moving forward, as the car is getting old. Well, at least I can get a sense of the problem before bringing the car to garage or dealer... Thoughts?

I don't think I'd waste the time or money. Any scanner you buy isn't going to give you much info anyway. If you intend to take it to the shop anyway, let them hook up a real scanner which not only pulls codes, but gives specs for the different components. The scanner will show real time voltage and current readings, etc. Also a shop scanner will pull codes from all the other computers as well as just the engine computer. It can check A/c, ASR, ABS, transmission, top hydraulics, and everything else.
