SL/R129: SL320 keeps popping out of gear

SL320 keeps popping out of gear
I can drive it around town all day and no problem. But after I've been on the freeway for 10 minutes or so it will just pop out of overdrive and either free rev or then grab 2nd or 3rd and hold them.
When it did it the very first time I drove it straight to the shop and dropped it off. It was stuck in 2nd. The next day when the shop got in it to take it to the tranny shop he said the car drove perfect. The tranny shop could not duplicate the problem either, they said maybe a valve had stuck so they changed the filter and added something to help free the valves up or something. I got it back last night, been driveing all day here and there but when I got on the freeway, sure enough, it did it again. Any advice? Its a 95 320SL W/104K.

Wow, popular thread this was! Thnx for all the help. Just in case any cares I had to put a tranny in the car. The pump had went out and caused excessive wear and some shavings got in the cylnoid which caused the shifting problems.
