SL/R129: Oil Change

Oil Change
How hard is it to change the oil on a 2001 SL 500? I see the oil filter on top of the moter so that has to be easy but how hard is it to get tothe drain plug and do you have to have a tool to reset the computer?

• Went to the stealer and purchased an oil filter $23.00
• Purchased 9 qts of 0-40W Mobil 1 $45.00
• Purchased an oil extractor. Pela 14 qt capacity $100.00 (somewhat of a rip but at least it works)
• Drove car for 10 minutes to heat up oil so it comes out easier
• Opened hood and removed engine cover (front part with MB star)
• Removed old oil filter with wrench (child’s play)
• Sucked out used oil with Pela pump
• Put in new oil filter
• Put in 8 ¼ qts of oil (checked oil level as I added 7th and 8th quarts). Apparently couldn’t suck it all out.
• Drove car, waited a few minutes and checked oil again.
• Last, reset my Service C indicator. Not sure what Service C is??

C Service is the 50K mile service. I just had it performed a few weeks ago. Basically, it is an oil change, plus all the other fluids in the car are checked, the wiper blade is replaced, and the car is inspected to make sure the major components are running fine.
