SL/R129: Aftermarket Warranty
#2
I purchased one when I bought my 99 SL500. I bought the car used and it was under 50K miles and had about a month left on the factory warranty so I was able to qualify for the extended warranty. I bought it from Mercury (the same company that underwrites most dealer warranties) and got the platinum policy (most expensive and allegedly the "best"). I was very glad I had it for both peace of mind and for actual repairs that were done. It didn't cover that catalytic converters that went bad, but they are warrantied for 80K miles (at least in California) and were replaced no charge. It also did not cover the convertible top seals in the windshield but thanks to the forum, I didn't need the stealer to fix those. I did have some A/C problems that were covered by the warranty and would have cost more than the policy cost. I also had a defective trunk (boot) lock solenoid replaced under the warranty. If you have a good relationship with your mechanic, they are very willing to work with you to take advantage of the warranty.
