Gas smell in my 1991 300 SL....new here....
Ok, this did the same exact thing last winter and I couldn't seem to find the problem and then one day, it stopped as sudden as it started! I've checked under the car and I've also checked under the hood and can't seem to find where it's coming from! The smell is overwhelming like it's inside the car!
Can anyone help me out here with what it could be?

You know I have had a similar problem with my SL. It would only happen when it was cold out. Which leads me to believe that it was a rubber seal of some sort that would shrink in cold weather. I haven't had the problem this year at all but I also had the fuel distributor and intake off this summer while replacing the head gasket. It seams mine has gone away. Before I had the car apart though I had narrowed the smell down to the fuel distributor not sure if it was the incoming fuel line or something thereabouts. Do you get your smell only while the car is running?
