SL/R129: Issues with my 92 500SL
I just got this car from a friend who Imported it from Japan.
Car wouldn't start so I changed the pump. This got it started but ran very rough. Took it for a short cruise and it was missing and power was cutting in and out, not very smooth at all. After only 5 min of driving the EXH TEMP gauge came on (I think the is only on Japan models). I pulled back into the driveway and there was fire coming out the exhaust tips.
Since then I changed the plugs and dist caps.
Car now fire up nice and smooth and remains smooth for 30 seconds are so then starts to idle rough which gets gradually worse until the engine starts to shake and dies.
If I hit the pedal the revs respond well but it is burning super rich, crazy black cloud out the exhaust.
Was told that the fuel distributor was the culprit. Just looking for some know advice here.
