SL/R129: Loose rear view mirror

2003 SL500
Loose rear view mirror
My interior rear view mirror is loose. I can be wiggled side to side about 20 degrees with little effort. Its tight up and down. Is there a way to tighten it without replacing the unit? I was told that it would cost at least $500.
