1997 SL500 AMG Sport
Mercedes mechs in the Detroit area

Hello,

I'm a new SL 500 owner...1997 Sport, and the BAS/ESP light just came on at around the 75k mile mark. I took the car to the local dealership in Ann Arbor and they say its due to a ABS pump failure. The cost including part & labor...$1,300 + tax.

Does anyone know of a reputable Mercedes mech or shop in the Detroit area? I'd like a second opinion.

Thank you in advance

I can also vouch for Moterwerks in Commerce Twp. Very nice operation they have their. Where in the Detroit are are you located? There are other shops that are closer such as Mercedes of St. Clair shores. I would take my car to Motorwerks seeing as they have all the right equipment. I had them do the front brakes on my car and the price was lower than at the dealership. When I was taken on a tour of the shop by the manager I was very impressed.

+1 for Motorwerks. Great guys. Really know their stuff. Was just in there today getting a VRP crank pulley installed on my SL55.

For a great dealership, check out Mercedes of Ann Arbor. They have outstanding customer service.

Thank you all

Thank you all for your replies and great suggestions. Based on a referral of the shop:
Advanced Auto Sport
38410 Grand River Ave Ste J
Farmington Hills, MI 48335
248-471-2886

I spoke with Sam, who was very knowledgable and professional. Looks like I'll be taking my SL500 there for any service work as his quotes were well under the dealership's prices.
Incidentally, I told the dealership (Mercedes-Benz of Ann Arbor) not to proceed with the $1,300 + repair, and when I picked the car up - both warning lights were off. I haven't had an incident since. Could have easily been $1,300 wasted on parts that may not have needed replacing? The service person said they merely changed out some fuses.
