Flashing Fuel and Reserve Lights?
Hello,
In the ongoing drama that is my fritzy instrument panel on the 2002 SL 500 silver arrow, I got this Vegas light-show this morning on the way in to work.
On the fuel gauge, for no apparent reason, the yellow indicators that light up when you're down in the reserve began flashing. I pulled over and cycled power to the car and the flashing did not return. Until about 10 minutes later, again for no apparent reason. I'm well over 1/2 the tank at the moment, so it's not like I'm in the reserve (besides, the reserve indicator is steady-state, not flashing).
I don't have my manual handy to check this at the moment; does anyone have any idea what this problem might be? I've had some glitchy intermittence on the right side of the instrument panel, including a tach that goes up but doesn't come down (!) and a phantom ghost-lighting of the "BRAKE" indicator when going around sharp turns, but those have been around awhile and this fuel-light-flashing business is new.
Any ideas would be appreciated!

the flashing reserve light indicates an issue with the fuel tank purge system, first thing to check is if the gas cap is on properly, if it is you will likely need to have the system leak checked by a qualified mercedes repair shop

i feel a tugging on my back pocket; what's that? oh, it's my mercedes' built-in "wallet-hoover" cash-vacuuming device!
well, the fuel purging will be matched by the cash-binging, i'm sure, to get this repaired. what a drag!

Incidentally, is this normal for a car that only just turned over 30,000 miles?
seems a little light in the loafers as far as hardiness and build quality are concerned. i've owned cadillacs and volvo's that were good for at least 60-80k before this stuff started dying...
