129 Newbie needs some guidance

I have been presented with what appears to be a good proposition, a patient of mine is in a money crunch and needs to sell his 1996 500SL. She has 62K miles and is Black with Tan interior (my favorite color combo) never wrecked, and always garaged. He want’s $10,500 for her.

I have been looking for a fun weekend type car to replace my recently departed Boxster.
I am very familiar with MB’s as I have a 1983 300SD that I drive everyday, but I know nothing of the 129’s.

What do you guy’s think?

Thanks,
Doc

Assuming the car is in stellar shape with service records, that is a fantastic deal!

That's a fantastic deal even if the car is crappy shape, just looking at the price...

$10k is good. Unless there some glaring huge issues, I would take that deal.

That is a Great price if it checks out mechanically and isn't a salvage title car.
Even if it needs a few minor things done, say $2-3K worth still a great deal.
A very fun weekend car to be sure as 17 -18 of us who were in Irvine this past Saturday will affirm.

Did some follow up work on the car and it's clean as far as the carfax. It has been garaged all it's life and has never had any body work. Has some upgraded crome wheels, and i have an appt. with my mechanic sat morning for him to look at it. It also has the hard top, i don't know if that was standard or an option, as i stated earlier i'm still learninig about the 129's. I'll let you guy's know how the check out goes on sat.

Thanks,
Doc

Wow...excellent find ! That's a great deal. Keep us updated with your appt on Saturday. Take some pics if you can. BTW, the hardtop comes standard with all R129 SL's. If they have the stand/cart or even a hoist for the hard top don't forget to ask for them too. Good Luck !
