Where are the VIN plates at.....[?]
Here's the whole story:
I have a 91 gray market 500SL. It has a reassigned US VIN. I thought I had 2 keys when I bought the car, only had 1. Lost the only key. Dealer can't order the key from the US VIN.....SO......I have to locate the original VIN plates.
Anyone wanna point me in the right direction?
How much should I expect to pay for the key?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks RM,
Evidently, <older> Euro spec carss didn't have to hav e the VIN in the lower glass on the driver side like on all US spec cars. Because There is no plate there, not even a place for a plate.
I found a sticker that read, "Original Mfg's VIN on Firewall". Does anybody know the location of the firewall VIN? There is a lot of plastic to remove to get the firewall. I would like to have an educated guess on where to start.
Thanks...

It changes all the time
I'm not sure about Euro versions, but US versions have antitheft stickers on most of the body components. There is a VIN sticker on eack bumper, the hood, and deck lid. If these components are changed during body work, the sticker with the VIN is lost with the replaced body part. The new sheet metal sticker says DOT on it. Check for these stickers. Also the VIN is stamped into the metal frame sonewhere in the engine compartment and shouldn't be behind any covers. My roadster isn't here right now to check. Your # should start with 129.066 or 129.067. Good luck.
