'93 SL 600 what problems to expect
My brother in law just got himself a '93 SL 600 with low mileage (50k). Should he expect to experience some inevitable v12 expensive repairs, or is it just luck of the draw? I would think that a 15 yr. old V12 could be problematic. Anyone had experience with this or is it like any other car where you just never know?

The earlier V12's had some issues with the wiring harnesses melting, so I would first check to see if that has been replaced at any point with the updated one. Aside from that, the motor is pretty durable. As for other general problem areas, run a search throughout the R129 sub-forum, a lot of things have been addressed. If any specific questions, then post them up.
It's a great car, congratulations.

The powertrain itself is rock-solid. You won't have any issues with the motor, and you should get at least another 40k-60k miles out of the tranny.
The problem on those earlier R129s are the wiring harnesses. Those melt and break down, and they're heinously expensive to replace (almost a $4k job), so if that hasn't been done yet then it's definitely in store.
Other than that, you will get the same issues you would get with any used car...expect to do some air conditioning work, catch up on deferred maintenance, etc. Nothing particularly back-breaking though.
