New owner with a few questions
Hello everyone. I just picked up a 1993 500SL yesterday and had a few questions:
- When locking the car, I can hear the pin for the gas filler door. Is there a proper way to lubricate or fix this?
- How hard is the trunklid lining to remove? I need to remove and replace the 3rd brakelight assembly because the clips are broken.
- I have the standard Becker radio. I hear mostly static from the driver side speakers. Are there separate amps that could be bad with this car or might a new radio unit fix the problem?
Thanks for your time...

For the trunk lid liner, they are attached by PLASTIC fasteners. You have to pry them off with a flathead screw driver. I don't remember how they look like since it was a one time job to replace the 3rd break light but they do break (or stretch) if you apply too much pressure or you are trying to remove a fastener you cannot see. All I can suggest is that you work on the edge first, so you can see how the fastener looks and how it works. Once you see that, you should be able to remove the liner, breaking may be 1-3 of the fasteners (or if lucky, none at all).
I have no input to your other issues, although for the gas lid pin, I guess it is either rubbing rubber or the locking holes are not aligned.

On a '93 car there are two amplifiers. The woofers in the doors are powered from the amp located in the trunk by the power antenna, and the tweeters and midranges are powered by the amp located in the passenger footwell.
