I have a chance to get one cheap (I think) silver/grey sport with 64K for 15gs? Sounds too good to be true? I took for a half day today....motor is nice, body is perfect, prolly needs shocks and brakes and the 60K maint. tho...

I'd love to hear some owners thoughts and experiences... super cool car and it looks every bit of its 149K MSRP price ! Gosh, the depreciation though...good for me I guess.

I ordered an SL500 back in 1997.
My wife still drives it today.
Nice car, my neighbor had a 600 and loved it also.
I would jump on that ride for that price.

Yepp....the depreciation sucks for the original owner.

97 SL600
Luvin' My 97 600

Here is a copy of a post I made in this forum about a month ago that says how I feel about my 97 SL 600. If you have 1/2 the fun I have had w/ mine this summer you will never look back at the $15,00.00 plus that you spend on this car. ENJOY!

BEST NINETEEN GRAND I'VE EVER SPENT!
It has now been six months since I found the car I was looking for on eBay. It was the right Year (97, which was the first year of the auto 5 speed on the 600) it was correct color (black on black) it had the options I was looking for (Pano, halogen, & factory ground effects), it had few enough miles (44,000), it had been on the west coast it's whole life (no salt issues), it was in my price range (under $20,000.00),& its documentation & condition were spot on.
This car has actually added a quality to my life I did not even know I wanted. By this I am not referring to the actual quality of the car (though of course the car is just ****) but to the enjoyment it brings to me when I kick the dozen chambers in the azz. EVERY time I get out of my car I am smiling. I've got to be careful, for if this goes on much longer my reputation as a sarcastic bitter little man will be shot to hell. I knew I was getting a lot of car for my $$, but to be honest I had no idea. It cost me $85.00 bucks to fill it once a week, & if it cost me four times that I would still be driving the wheels of this thing.
Anyhow, I just wanted to preach to the choir about my R129. Keep 'em clean, & drive them hard.

1994 AMG E60 (W124); 1997 SL600; & few others that I cannot fit in here
97 SL600 ...I've owned one for 9+ years. At first, I was hesitant because I thought, why do I need V12, (I've owned SL500, AMGs (V8), etc. prior). How wrong was I. The last years of R129 SL600 is an excellent car. V12 is a totally different experience. You have to drive and experience to know the difference. V12 is analogous to a jet plane, smooth, quiet, and powerful ! Even an AMG SL55 is not the same. Once you get to drive it yourself, you'll be convinced how wonderful V12 is. The rest is irrelevant. Good luck. w/ smiles Jimmy
