R129 Sl500 facelift
I am the owner of a 1995 Sl500 and I am thinking of getting my Sl face lifted to a 2001 / 2002 model.
Can someone please whether this can be done, what it entails and approximate cost.

Hi Alex,
Sure this can be done! I did that with my 1990 300SL24 as well...
The rear bumper is a straight swap...the side moldings are all different...not only the one on the front fender. These side moldings are a straight swap as well; no problem.
The biggest challenge is the front bumper since the modelupdated SL has a thicker front chassis beam compared to the nin modelupdated SL which results in having to use spacers between the bumperbeam and chassisbeam...it is a little work but can be done. The foglights and mud guards under the fenders are different...
Where are you located? I have a complete set of new bumpers and side moldings here in Europe and still have a new set of sidemoldings lying in the bay area...all parts are new but need to be repainted...

It might be simple but that doesn't mean cheap. If you wanted to do it properly, you'd also be looking at new door handles and mirrors, a third brake light if you do not already have one. As an example, I've just had a door replaced (after an argument with a gate post) and the trim along the bottom of the door cost $200. I also had a front-end respray and replaced the two fog lights in the front bumper which were cracked. They are more than $90 each. In all, my guess is you'll be looking at $3 - 4k.
