Air Intake on SL500 1996

Hi, I'm a newbie so apologies of this is a re-thread. Has anyone here gotten any success installing an air filter/intake such as a K & N filter? I bet it would make the engine sound sweet too when its revved up. I've done it on all my past cars but wasn't sure if the r129 had any problems making such a modification. Your input is very much appreciated. Thanks.

There have been issues in the past with K&N's ruining the MAF Sensor. However, this usually occurs when owners over-oil when "recharging" the filter. I had them on my car for a good 25,000 miles now, and they still look good. After another 25,000 I will just toss out the set and save myself the hassle of re-oiling it, opening up potential for problems. As for power gains, we have them on both cars. The best I've seen on before and after dyno's were where people picked up 5-7 horsepower. Motor sounds a bit nicer as well. Just be sure to remove them to shake out the assorted debris from time to time.
