Question Diesel 1995 SL

Hope no one throws tomatoes at me for putting this into words!
I want to put a diesel engine into my SL to replace the SLOW 280 engine that's in it now... if I'm going to have a slow car, it may as well be for a reason.
I live in Dubai, and have recently found a wreckers with a relatively new looking mercedes diesel engine- the guys there didn't speak much english- and I didn't have a translator handy, so I couldn't ask which engine it was exactly- or which car it was originally from.
Thanks in advance...
Dan

If it's the modern V6 TDI, then off the bat you are going to have more torque than the SL500. With a tune, you will be putting down some nice power figures. I can't say much about the diesel top end compared to a healthy M119, but you will certainly enjoy the stump-pulling low end grunt. I can say though that this will not be an easy swap, as you will need all the wiring harnesses, ECU, etc. to get this motor running right. Good luck and post up some photos if you decide to go through with this.

I doubt it will be possible within reasonable cost/time/complexity.

The R129 chassis never had a diesel engine, and besides the engine, you will need to find a transmission to match the engine and chassis.
