SL/R129: 1996 SL320 check engine light is inoperative

1996 SL320 check engine light is inoperative
New problem...check engine light does "NOT" come on in the prestart positon
ATS light has never come on in when the key is the pre ignition position.
Now the check engine light does not come on when key is in the pre start position.
I have pulled the cluster and checked bulbs. ATS and Check engine bulbs are good. Have checked all fuses except those in the trunk.
ANyone have any experince with this.
Any help would be welcomed..thanks in advance...
