Looking for SL 129 owners in Southern California
Hello,
in 2006 I organized a group buy for the smarttop modules (slk, clk and sl - new models). A lot of MBWorld users joined in.
Today the manufacturer of these comfort roof control modules is developing a unit for the SL 129. They are looking for a SL 129 owner with one of the earlier infrared models close to Los Angeles / Southern California.
They offer a free module incl. free installation in return.

Hello,
The SmartTOP for SL 129 will offer the following features:
* Comfort soft top control while driving: Within a programmable speed limit (0-60 kmh / 0-38 mph) the top can be operated automatically with a short push of the open or close button.
* Remote control: One-Touch operation of convertible top and windows with the original remote.
* Super Comfort Mode allows starting engine during remote top operation. Also allows turning the engine off, getting out and locking the doors, while the top is still closing.
* User programmable: All features can be individually enabled or disabled. Some also allow different personal preferences to be set. All settings are retained even if the car battery is disconnected.
* Shop/Diagnose mode: If activated the smartTOP is completely passive, as if it was not installed at all. It becomes invisible to diagnostic tools.
* Future-proof investment: Should new features become available for this module, it can be updated easily and at very low cost.
They need access to a car with the ONE BUTTON key remote.

First of all I would like to thank everybody who offered their help.
During the development they found out that there are 3 different SL 129 models:
a) RF key fob + roof top control unit with 2 connectors (1994 and later)
b) IR key fob + roof top control unit with 2 connectors (1992-1994)
c) IR key fob + roof top control unit with 3 connectors (1992 and earlier)
The development for a) and b) is completely done - thanks again to all volunteers.
Now they need another car with model year 1991 or earlier to finish their work.
Again, they offer a free module incl. free installation in return.

Please have a look at the following installation instructions:

Please follow step 1-3 to get access to the roof top controller (takes 1 minute).
Does your roof top control unit has one large plug and two small plugs like in the picture of step 4 or does it have one large plug and one small plug as shown in the picture of step 5?
They need another car with the following specs:
c) IR key fob + roof top control unit with 3 connectors - one large and two small plugs (1992 and earlier)
