1990 300SL Single Wiper Repair HELP ###
1990 300SL Single Wiper Repair (Cover Removal to Lube Assembly)
My wiper arm mechanism is remaining in the extended position throughout the wiping range. The wiper blade end gets bent at both driver and passenger pillars. I removed the wiper blade and exchanged it with a 20" blade which does work with no interference. I prefer to reinstall the original blade and fix the articulating mechanism the extends/retracts blade along the windshield. I read an article on another forum re. repair: 202Tech - Hesitating Wiper Fix
by 202tech. It referred to a different model " . . . . 1994 C280. However since this type of wiper was universal, it should apply to all W202 models . . . . " The instructions to open the cover read " . . . . Step 3: Remove the main cover piece by pulling out and up on the two release tabs (circled in the picture) . I used my fingers, but you might need to use something pull the tabs outward and up." Well . . . the 300SL has NO tabs to pry or pull as described. I tried prying with screw driver/hammer combo at the seams, all around, to NO avail. Has anyone opened the cover to lube the mechanism? What tool, how and at what points can this be accomplished??

2004 S500; 1991 300SL
On later models you can just pry off the cover BUT on a 1990 you will have to remove the whole wiper mechanism to access the screws holding the cover. I have to do this also but at least mine is stuck in the restracted position.

So did you manage to get the wiper assembley apart? I'm trying to strip down mine now, but it seems so well made and therefore complex that I'm afraid of breaking something.
Do you have any guides on how to take it all apart successfully?

I have a '91 300CE that I had to do the same job. There is a gear inside that is probably stripped. You can replace the whole mechanism. I bought a used one from SolCal. Do a search on some of the other sites and you should find what you are looking for.
