Unhappy Oil in the sparkplug socket - '97 SL320

Hi all,
After my car started misfiring, I went to check/replace the plugs... but pulled the plugs out and found oil on the lower part, and looks like traces of that oil has gotten into the socket the plug sits in.
I've seen notes on some posts that say oil has fouled the plug due to the plug not being torqued in correctly, but my question is - has this now caused permanent damage to my engine?
I'll clean the sockets the best I can, replace with correctly torqued new plugs, but wanted to know if I have bigger worries.

FYI, the last shop that changed the oil I noticed was a little above 'max' level, so I had them go back and level off.
Thanks,

97 SL320

It is impossible to fill in oil above a maximum level! The level of oil should be in the middle between min and max
