Yeah I agree it is way too costly, "not bad" was to the conversion job, not the price. The front end looks huge conpared to a normal new SL, don't you think?
It gets worse when the top goes up....

The line of the windscreen gives it away but it will fool some people for a time, for sure. there's also a Ferrari F355 conversion around which starts life as a Toyota MR2...
It's money down the drain, how on earth do you sell something like that, or even get it maintained? I think the average Mercedes dealer or specialist would just laugh... I'd be too embarassed to take it in.

It does look at little off and I wouldn't spend my own money to do it, but I would take one for free and not be shy about telling people that it's a replica that I got for free, lol
Because even though it looks kind of weird compared to what it's supposed to look like, it is pretty nice looking for what it is. I hate people who try and play their replicas off for the real deal. If I had an older SL though I would just sell it and take the cash I would have spent on the conversion and put nice downpayment on a new SL

Backseat on coversion
Of course the converstion does trump the new SL by virtue of retaining the optional back seat, limited though it is, on the old SL. I guess if you live in sunny Southern California where it never rains and have short legged kids that need the back seat this may be the way to go since with the top down it is a great knock-off. Considering what the old model SL has depreciated down to with the new model coming out one might actually be able to justify the conversion cost. Unfortunately, I believe that conversion company is located in northern Europe so you need to also add in the cost of round-trip boat fare. Anyone really serious can locate them at their website which can be tracked down from the name on the license plate by doing a Goggle Search. It seems like they are located in Belgium or one of the countries nearby.

they are based in belgium, which is only about 2hours away from me, via Euro Tunnel. The jobs they do i think are wicked, the cost is still a bit too much tho, they do conversion for S class, old E class, W210 face lifts etc, heres the site

What a total waste of money!
Instantly turns the driver into a "want to but can't" kind of guy and turns a nice classic SL into an unsellable piece of junk.
So sad![Frown](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)

Can't stand Wannabes, and the Chrysler Baron/SL job is quite hideous. How embarassing taking that outside your drive, let alone a dealer for service!
Shiraz has said that the company's in Belgium but i came across a distributer in the UK. www.gericia.com
Click on the link if you're really keen.
You can't beat the classic lines and sweeping bonnet of a 129, keep it original and save your pennies for a new one

Replicas are pointless unless done very well but then the price is almost even to the real deal for the money its a down payment on a new SL or in the case a ferrar. Driving a replica must feel wierd have a ferrari body but a toyota engine.

Not at all, I have never owned a Ferrari or a MR2 until now so no. My car as a few mods so I’m a lot quicker than most plus I tell every one that asks it a MR2. I love the look of the Ferrari's but don’t like the price or the costly running costs so I got the best of both worlds.

The SL upgrade as well as those for all other models including the ML series will be available soon in N. California.
If interested, contact me and I'll provide details.
You can buy the panels and have it done or you can purchase the complete upgrades.
