1996 sl 500

Hard top help - NEW PURCHASE

Hi. I am new to ownership of a 1996 SL 500. The PPI was done through a Mercedes dealer. They said that the hard top should unlatch with a simple pull back of the Red knob near the center console. However, the place where it was purchased told us to push the "red button" on the left side of the dash and then the button next to it (a pic of a car with arrows). This truly unlatches the car top. Now, the dealer is saying there is a "short" in the electrical system because that is not how to unlatch the hard top.

Now, I do not have the owners manual yet (one is on its way) - what is the deal? Brioken car, or bad mechanic at mercedes???

This is the correct procedure. Maybe the previous owner modified the switch for some reason.
