e39 bmw 528i and 540i

Looking to buy my first MB a 1999 sl600 amg

Hi all:
I am a BMW enthusiast (1997 e39 528i and 1998 e39 540i cuurently and 1987 e30 325i originally). Brought my wife's 528i to get an estimate for some paint and there she was.......a 1999 sl600 amg with only 35k miles! Black on Grey very well kept.....and I can get it for $20,000 CDN Dollars!! The garage owner is a family friend and sold me my first BMW, he is only the second owner of the car.

Started to do research which nrought me to this site.......want to learn as much as I can as he will let me have the sl600 for the week-end!!

Can anyone LMK any known problems for this car? Seems like a rare car to won, should I worry about it? Any guidance is appreciated.

By '99 they had most of the problems worked out. The locking cylinders for the top are a problem, $40 each to have rebuilt. The thing you have to remember is,

this car is now 11 yrs. old!!! You WILL run into a few small problems, BUT, You will also have ALOT OF FUN!!!!
