NEED DIAGNOSTIC HELP: Power Steering May Be Going
I have a 2001 SL500 with 55k miles on it.
When the car is cold (not as in freezing temperatures but as in just turned on, idled for about a minute or so and then started to drive), i hear a rubbing type noise from what i think is the left front of the car. It almost feels as if i can feel a vibration a little on the gas pedal when i hear the noise and it only happens when i am turning the steering wheel. What's really weird is that after about 5 minutes of driving, it completely goes away.
My initial thought was that it might have something to do with the power steering but I am fearful to bring it in for service as i just had to replace the entire exhaust system for more than $3k and the top for $2k.
Anybody have any ideas or suggestions?

Since no one responded, I ended up bringing it in for service and it turned out that it was the Power Steering pump. They were very friendly and they told me and I quote "we took apart the entire steering pump mechanism and put it back together with all new seals". This sounded a little off to me. Anybody out there have any experience with power steering pumps? Does this sound legit or am I being taken? Thanks.
