Question 1995 SL500 Differential Leak

All of a sudden about a drop of oil a day is comming from my SL500 rear end. It looks like the oil is coming from the top, but I can't see up there, but can feel and there seems to be a cap on top of the rear end - is that a vent cap? Pulled the plug to check the level and it is o.k. Any help would be appreciated.

There is a vent... if the diff is over filled the vent will leak... more common for the side seals to leak.

Sometimes it looks like its coming from the rear because the oil gets blown back while driving.. Clean it off and re check

Thanks for you reply. It's definitley coming from the top of the differential and through the fins at the back. There was a buildup of sludge at the top of the rear end near the vent - have cleaned that off since it may have been holding the vent open. Will drive it some more and see what happens.
