Are the 91 and 92 engine harness bad.There are so many different stories that people say what are the years on the SL harnesses that are bad Jimbo

the "eco" harnesses that several european car makers used were Mercedes issue for about three model years, some 93-95 SL's. The tell is easy, just handle a wire insulator in the harness and it will feel stiff and crack easily. In my SL600, 94 both engine compartment harnesses were cracked, with green oxidation from the copper wire visible thru the cracked insulation. I felt the engine heat was a significant factor to accelerate the breakdown. the instrument, interior and trunk wireing has not exhibited the same breakdown.
The symptoms noted as a driver were warning lights on the dash, irregular engine RPM's, overheating, cruise control not engaging, fuel consumption.
I still have the ck engine light, but the cause is the air sensor, all the ride systems work wonderfully and I keep a healthy distance from the dealer who know the problem, which often entailed the CPU! My problem with benz was the fact they knew about the problem but wouldn't step up and recall the fleet, instead only sometimes R/R the harness for their best clients.
Since my car first belonged to a singing country western, actress, who put very few miles, the dealer had no reason to suspect a problem.
Since you are all over the web sites good luck with your toy. They are fun, and its only money!
