Rear seats for early R129
I understand some pre roll bar 500sl's had a rear seat option. Is this correct? I am looking at purchasing an early low kilometer model and this would be excellent? What year was the roll bar first fitted?
In the early w113 series they came with a soft top or a rear seat. You couldn't have both.Is this the case with the 129 series?
Thanks,

Aftermarket jump seats...
I don't know about stock ones, but there is a company that sells after market jump seats that fit on the bench. I don't have any direct experiance with them, but the existance of these seats pushed me over the edge to trade in my SLK 230 for an older SL600. I testdrive the first on Monday!

1991 Mercedes Benz 300 SL
My 1991 300 SL has a rear seat. I understand they are as rare. In fact the person I deal with for used parts for my car didn't even know the car came with a rear seat and she specializes in used Mercedes parts. The leather on my rear seat is in bad shape and Iam going to reupholster it when it is its turn. I still have to get the locks straight first.

rear seat warning
Hi I have a 97 sl500 and purchased an aftermarket rear seat that matched the leather in the front seats looks great. Had the dealer install it. Would just like to say that the seat came with an alarm that sounds and will not go off if you have the seat back up and roll bar down.
the reason it has the alarm is that if someone is sitting in the back and car senses that it is going to roll over roll bar snaps up in less than a second and can kill someone with that force. Would not recommend rear seat without that alarm. I have been very pleased with mine sorry do not recall who I purchased it from.
