Program or sync remote key
Hi experts,
I just bought a 1999 SL500 from my friend who gave me two remote keys one is old working perfectly and the other he told me that he order from MB dealer. Using this new key open the door is OK but the remote did not work yet. He told me I need to go MB dealer to program/sync it. Is there anyway to program/sync by myself?

Can you start the engine with the new key? I remembered going through this years back. I could program the remote but couldn't get the key to start. I ended up ordered a new key from the dealer.
I think your friend yanked you. If he ordered the key from the dealer, it should work (for your 1999 SL500). It might be too obvious but did you check the batteries?

My friend did not fool me, in order for the key to work I have to sync the key. After read the owner's manual page 140, I make it works.

Good to know. The trick is to get the blade to work. Sync the remote is not a problem with your year model (getting a key sync on later model with keylessgo is another story which requires dealer).
