Ugg.....my window just STOPPED working
Hello,
On my 1991 300SL the right power window just stopped working.
On minute it was just fine now its stuck in the down position. Thinking it was perhaps the switch I used the soft top switch as it activates the windows when the top it put up but still no response from the window. So my questions are this. What is wrong and can some one tell me how to remove the door panel to get at the guts inside.

First of all, check the fuses. The winder motors use a lot of current and a fuse can blow. I think there's a relay as well, so check that. There's no point taking the door apart if no power is getting there.
If these are OK, then you can get the panel off by following the procedure I described for replacing the speaker grilles in another post. Once you have that off, there's a polythene sealing sheet which can be removed to expose the door inside. If the sheet tears badly, you can order a replacement from a Mercedes dealer, I used double sided tape strips to hold it in place when I last replaced one.
The inside of the door is complex because it has a double skin and there are things like the door airbag to get in the way. There are also adjustments for aligning the window. Because the window is frameless, the window has to be held square by the runners in the door. Otherwise, if your car has the feature which drops the window slightly when you open the door, you can get the problem of the back edge of the window dropping more than the front end and it ends up striking the hard top when you close the door with the hard top on. So, don't just undo every nut in sight, you'll regret it!
