Squeaky steering wheel

97 sl500 ....I am being driven nuts by a squeak in the steering wheel where it meets the Steering shaft. I can tell It is close to the surface. Would a little 3n1 due the trick, or would that hurt something ? It is truly annoying

I just came by your post..I have the exact same problem..have mounted and dismounted the wheel at least 5 times..oiled, WD40ed, even greased..but the damn thing is still there..it's like a "rubbing" squeak!

squeaky

I FOUND IT. It is in the tel-o-scoping section of the steering wheel.. My wife ask the simple question, what is different than when you didn't hear it. Then it came to me, my daughter had re-set the steering wheel to bring it closer to her. So the steering wheel was further out than I had set it before she drove it. I pushed the button slid it back in and the Squeak went away.
So thanks to my wife, ( she will never let me live it down )I once again enjoy driving my sliver beauty.
