I am in the market for an SL129 . I would like the the 320 model.
The later the better. I dont want megga miles. It will be a week end car as I have a company car and my wife has a C220BE D sport for her to go to and from work which is a 2010 car.
I like the look at the SL 129 model but I dont know what to watch for when purchasing what problems or items that may go wrong.
I am looking for as much advise as possible and direction as possible.
I live in North Lincolnshire but I travel most of the country and Europe.
I am open to you to give me some pointers on where or what I should do as a starting point.
Do you know of any good cars or if not what should I avoid or dealers that I should avoid. I dont mind buying private.
I look forward to hearing your advise.
Regards
Vin

Hey There,
As far as what you should look for.....hydraulic top actuators there are a bunch and very costly to fix from $ 2,000. if you know how to work it up to $6,000. Head gasket a problem on the 96-97 once they're fixed right not a problem. Some cars have wire harness issues.....water pumps go around 60 k oh ya motor mounts they are not that robust, misc. dash board control module issues other than that nothing really out of the ordinary....
I have a 2002 silver arrow and a 96 sl 320 the 320 is really a cool car.....the 500's are really fun, they feel a bit more of a muscle car, but the 320 feels and sounds a bit more like a "sports car'. Old MB straight 6's are slippery smooth units.
My fascination with the 320 is the fact it has a real "fun factor"....get's surprising good mileage and the old school benz feel and quality is ever present.
Mine is triple black, I live in Ca. and might be interested in selling....have too many cars.....mine has a bunch of new parts, including all the previously mentioned hydraulic actuators, new top, water pump, battery, motor mounts, brakes, stuts,AMG monoblock 18 inch wheels new tires and a Flawless interior. Exterior shows as good as many cars 5-6 years old.
I'm a car nut tried and true and it shows almost as nice as my 2002 that is close, very close to show quality.
Hope this helps a bit and good luck out there......buyer be ware as it relates to buying old sl's sometimes it's wiser to buy cars that have been pampered and pay a bit more rather than to go after that bargin priced.

i know of a guy who is selling his 2001 SL500 black on black with 12,000 miles on it!!! NO JOKE! 12,000!!!
The car is THE CLEANEST SL500 i have seen!
He is in LA, CA. so if you are willing to have it shipped or something...
I mean the car is in Collector Condition!
I have a 2002 with 25k. and I actually bought mine from CARMAX....
I would suggest buying from CARMAX, because I have a bumper to bumper 6 years and 100k miles warranty... and on these cars it is well worth it!!!
