SL/R129: all guages stopped working

all guages stopped working
started car all bottom lights came on engine check,etc drove 10 feet all guages bottomed out,and the only light that comes on is a red sep or something in that affect. turned off car. started back up no bottom lights,and no guages at all. can anyone shead some light?

300SL, 500SL (both R129)
Hi, I just had instrument cluster fail on my 500sl.
I found a video about a 300sl flashing dash on you tube.
My dash is electrically the same, and after investigating I learned the following:
1) there is a 8.5volt voltage regulator with heatsink at one end of the circuit that can give trouble.
2) there are a couple of electrolytic capacitors that are near the voltage regulator, and when I replaced them, it cured the problem. In my case the lights along the bottom of cluster were ok, but all gauges had stopped. Easy job to change capacitors, and very cheap!
