Anyone ever replaced a steering dampener on a late model SL500? It seems like it has to be an easy job, the dampener looks like hood shocks, but where does this thing go and what tools do I need to replace it?

It is parallel with the front exale. Loose the two bolts on the ends to replace it. The bolt on the left side is much tougher to remove. It should be an easy job if you have a lift. Once you lift the car, you can't miss it. Good luck!

Replaced the steering dampener with a Stabilus OEM one I bought from Autohausaz.com for $22 and the car steers really nicely. I'm surprised it made such a difference. My old one was gooey and leaking and I heard the steering dampener is a common problem on these cars but one of the few problems as they are super reliable as mine has been.
